Signature Waist Cincher

Your Complete
Fit & Wearing Guide

Everything you need to find your perfect size, wear your cincher correctly, and get the most out of every stage of your journey.

Step One

How to Measure Yourself

Choosing the right size is the single most important step. A cincher that fits correctly will feel supportive and comfortable — not painful or restrictive.

What You Need

A soft measuring tape

Use a flexible fabric tape measure. If you don't have one, a piece of string and a ruler will work.

When to Measure

Before meals, standing upright

Measure in the morning or before eating for the most consistent result. Stand naturally — do not hold your breath or suck in.

Where to Measure

Your natural waist

Find the narrowest part of your torso — typically about 2–3 cm above your navel. This is your natural waist.

Special Note

If you carry weight lower

If your abdomen is fuller below the navel (e.g. postpartum), measure at the fullest point of your lower abdomen instead, and size up accordingly.

Pro Tip Keep the tape parallel to the floor and snug against your skin — but not tight enough to compress. You should be able to slip two fingers underneath comfortably.

Step Two

Find Your Size

Match your natural waist measurement to the recommended range below. When you fall between two sizes, we recommend sizing down for a firmer shaping effect, or sizing up for more comfort during longer wear.

Size Your Waist (cm) Your Waist (inches) Fit Feel
2XS 50 – 60 cm 19.5 – 23.5" Firm shaping
XS 60 – 70 cm 23.5 – 27.5" Firm shaping
S 70 – 75 cm 27.5 – 29.5" Firm shaping
M 75 – 85 cm 29.5 – 33.5" Firm shaping
L 85 – 90 cm 33.5 – 35.5" Firm shaping
XL 90 – 100 cm 35.5 – 39.5" Firm shaping
2XL 100 – 110 cm 39.5 – 43.5" Firm shaping

Measurements refer to your natural waist, not the garment waist. The cincher is designed to compress 3–8 cm from your natural measurement.

Between Sizes? If your measurement falls exactly on the boundary between two sizes, consider how you plan to wear it. For daily wear and comfort, choose the larger size. For maximum shaping effect, choose the smaller size — but ensure you can fasten it on the loosest row of hooks without strain.

Know Your Cincher

What's Inside the Signature

Understanding how the cincher is built helps you wear it correctly and get the best results.

23 Memory Steel Bones

Structured support throughout the torso. Holds its shape wear after wear without folding or rolling.

🔗

Multi-Row Hook Closure

Three rows of adjustable hooks let you dial in your compression level as your body changes.

V-Cut Hip Support

The lower edge follows the natural hip contour, reducing pressure on the hip bones during movement.

Jacquard Upper Panel

Structured fabric that shapes the waist while maintaining a smooth profile under clothing.

Breathable Mesh Lower

Lightweight mesh panel at the lower section improves ventilation for all-day wear.

Anti-Roll Construction

Reinforced edges and boning placement prevent the cincher from rolling up or shifting during wear.

Step Three

How a Correct Fit Feels

A well-fitted cincher should feel supportive and firm — not painful or impossible to breathe in.

  • You can fasten it on the loosest row

When you first receive your cincher, you should be able to close it on the outermost (loosest) row of hooks without forcing. If you cannot, size up.

  • You can take a full breath

Compression should feel firm but not suffocating. You should be able to breathe normally. If breathing feels restricted, loosen the hooks or size up.

  • No pinching or digging at the edges

The upper and lower edges should sit flush against your body. If they dig in or create visible marks after a short wear, the size may be too small.

  • The cincher sits flat against your back

There should be no gaping or lifting at the back. If the back panel lifts away from your body, the cincher may be too large.

  • If it feels painful — stop

Mild pressure and firmness is normal. Sharp pain, numbness, or difficulty breathing is not. Remove the cincher immediately and consult our Fit Support team before trying again.

Sizing FAQ

Common Fit Questions

If your waist measurement falls outside the range above, please contact our Fit Support team before ordering. We are happy to help you determine whether our current size range is right for you.
Postpartum bodies often carry more volume in the lower abdomen. We recommend measuring at the fullest point of your lower abdomen rather than your narrowest waist, and sizing up by one size from that measurement. Start on the loosest hook row and increase compression gradually as your body recovers.
When you can comfortably fasten your cincher on the tightest row of hooks and still feel that compression is insufficient, it is time to size down. Our Progress Reward program gives returning customers 15% off their next cincher — no questions asked.

Before You Begin

How to Put On Your Cincher

Taking a few minutes to put on your cincher correctly makes a significant difference in comfort, shaping results, and the longevity of the garment.

  • 1

    Start with the cincher open

Hold the cincher with the hook panel facing you. Wrap it around your torso so the hooks are at the front, centred on your abdomen.

  • 2

Position it correctly on your body

The upper edge should sit just below your bust line. The V-shaped lower edge should follow your hip contour naturally. The cincher should cover your entire waist and lower abdomen.

  • 3

    Fasten from the bottom up

Begin with the lowest row of hooks first, then work upward. This helps smooth the fabric evenly and prevents bunching at the top.

  • 4

    Start on the loosest row

For your first few wears, always use the outermost (loosest) row of hooks. This allows your body to adjust to the compression gradually.

  • 5

    Smooth and adjust

Once fastened, run your hands along the sides and back to smooth out any fabric. Check that the cincher sits flat against your back with no gaping or rolling.

  • 6

    Take a test breath

Take a slow, full breath. You should feel firm compression but be able to breathe comfortably. If breathing feels restricted, loosen to the next row of hooks.

Building Your Routine

Recommended Wear Schedule

Your body needs time to adapt to structured compression. Starting gradually is not a shortcut — it is the most effective approach for long-term comfort and results.

Week 1–2

2–3

hours per day

Week 3–4

4–6

hours per day

Month 2

6–8

hours per day

Ongoing

8+

hours per day

Listen to Your Body The schedule above is a general guideline. If you experience discomfort at any stage, reduce your wear time and progress more slowly. There is no benefit to pushing through pain.
Important Do not wear your cincher while sleeping. Your body needs uncompressed rest, and wearing it overnight can interfere with circulation and breathing.

Compression Progression

How to Progress Your Hook Rows

The three rows of hooks give you control over your compression level. Moving to a tighter row is a milestone — not something to rush.

  • 1

    Row 1 — Outermost (Loosest)

Start here for your first 2–4 weeks. This row allows your body to adapt to the structure and compression of the cincher without overstressing your core or back muscles.

  • 2

    Row 2 — Middle

Move to this row when Row 1 feels comfortable for your full daily wear duration and you feel ready for slightly more compression. Most wearers reach this point after 3–6 weeks.

  • 3

    Row 3 — Innermost (Tightest)

This row delivers maximum compression. Only progress here when Row 2 feels comfortable for your full wear duration. When Row 3 feels comfortable and you still want more compression, it may be time to size down.

Progress Reward When you are ready to size down, our Progress Reward program gives you 15% off your next Signature cincher. Share your journey on Instagram or TikTok with @thehourglassjourney and #MyHourglassJourney to unlock 40% off.

Daily Activity

What You Can Do While Wearing It

The Signature cincher is designed for daily life. Here is a practical guide to what works well and what to avoid.

  • Office work & desk time

Ideal for long periods of sitting. The structured boning supports your posture and helps you maintain an upright position naturally.

  • Light to moderate daily activity

Walking, light housework, running errands, and standing for extended periods are all comfortable with the cincher. The V-cut hip design reduces friction during movement.

  • Wearing under clothing

The clean back profile and smooth front panel make the Signature easy to wear under fitted tops, dresses, and workwear without visible lines.

  • Light exercise

Low-impact activities such as walking, yoga, and pilates are generally fine. If you feel restricted during any movement, remove the cincher. We do not recommend wearing it for high-intensity cardio or heavy lifting, as these activities require full range of motion and unrestricted breathing.

  • While sleeping

Never wear your cincher overnight. Your body needs uncompressed rest for healthy circulation and recovery.

  • Immediately after eating a large meal

Avoid putting on the cincher directly after a large meal. Wait at least 30–60 minutes to avoid discomfort from abdominal pressure.

Postpartum Guidance

Wearing After Pregnancy

Many of our customers begin their journey during postpartum recovery. The guidance below is for general reference — always consult your healthcare provider before beginning any compression garment routine after childbirth.

  • 1

    Wait for medical clearance

Do not begin wearing a structured cincher until you have received clearance from your doctor or midwife. For vaginal births, this is typically no earlier than 6 weeks postpartum. For caesarean births, wait until your incision has fully healed and your provider has given approval.

  • 2

Start shorter and looser than you think you need

Postpartum bodies are still healing. Begin with 1–2 hours per day on the loosest hook row, and increase very gradually over several weeks.

  • 3

    Do not wear while breastfeeding

Abdominal compression can interfere with milk supply and posture during feeding. Remove the cincher before nursing sessions.

  • 4

Stop if you feel any pelvic floor pressure

If you experience increased pelvic pressure, leaking, or discomfort in the pelvic region while wearing the cincher, stop immediately and consult your healthcare provider.

Medical Disclaimer The Signature Waist Cincher is a shaping garment, not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, or prevent any medical condition. The guidance above does not constitute medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for personalised postpartum care.

Care & Longevity

How to Care for Your Cincher

Proper care extends the life of your cincher and maintains its shaping performance over time.

Washing

Hand wash only

Hand wash in cool or lukewarm water with a gentle detergent. Do not machine wash — the agitation can damage the boning and hook closures.

Drying

Air dry flat

Lay flat or hang to air dry. Do not tumble dry or expose to direct heat, which can warp the steel bones and shrink the fabric.

Storage

Store flat or rolled

Store your cincher flat or gently rolled, not folded sharply. Avoid storing it compressed under heavy items, which can permanently bend the boning.

Rotation

Alternate between wears

If you wear your cincher daily, consider having two cinchers and alternating between them. This allows each one to fully recover its shape between wears.

Wearing FAQ

Common Wearing Questions

Mild muscle fatigue in the core and back is normal when you first begin wearing a structured cincher, similar to how you might feel after a new exercise. This should ease within a week or two. If you experience sharp pain, numbness, or bruising, stop wearing and contact us.
Yes. The Signature cincher is designed to be worn directly against the skin. Some customers prefer to wear a thin seamless camisole underneath for added comfort, particularly during warmer months.
Rolling usually indicates the cincher is too large, or that it has been positioned too high on the torso. Ensure the lower edge is sitting at or just above the hip, and check that you are wearing the correct size. If the issue persists, contact our Fit Support team.
The Signature cincher provides immediate visual shaping while worn. Long-term changes to your waist shape depend on many individual factors including your overall lifestyle, consistency of wear, and body composition. We do not make specific outcome guarantees.
This is entirely personal preference. Some customers find the support helpful for lower back discomfort during their cycle; others prefer not to wear compression during this time. Listen to your body and reduce wear time or loosen the hooks if you feel any increased discomfort.
